So I replaced them with LED ones...Oh my!!!
They get just about the same amount of looks from people. I’ll miss the giant rally light look and maybe I’ll get a pair again in the future, but I am happy with these ones so far!
Visibility at night is insane:
Just the LEDs
LEDs and low beams
Giving it everything but the fog lights (blown bulbs):
And that’s on a somewhat lit street.
On a dark road they’re bloody amazing. I’ll have to adjust them downward a little more so I don’t blind people. That left one is at a weird angle, so I’ll check that out too.
Rusty spotlights, for reference.

Do Smarts really idle at 1k rpm or was it cold?
If so, I’d never noticed.

They idle at 900 rpm. The engine was a tad cold, so it idled at 1,100 rpm.

i have 2 sets of those on my side by side for my plowing duties..
think they are 8 watts each, and really bright for what they are.

Hey, I’ve been installing LEDs too:
They are amazing. That tiny bar on the truck over powers the high beams. The giant bar on the van makes all the other lights useless.

Those look like the lights I’m mounting behind the grill on my truck.

What brand of lights? I happen to be in the market for any and all lighting available (see prev. posts).

Hope you’re not running those in traffic.
ebay pods are usually 18w - watch for them leaking.

Needs a push bar

They probably are! They’re some cheap 18W units from Amazon. Wouldn’t be amazed if there was just some basic design that a bunch of companies use.

They aren’t as bad in person as they are in pictures. I’d rate them no worse than bright OEM LEDs/HIDs. I may get a filter to dim them a little.
I actually went Amazon this time around. I’ve had bad luck with lighting from eBay (where my previous spotlights came from). Thankfully Amazon users actually review the products that they buy. I mainly like them for the fact that if they do go bad, I can just unscrew them from their mounts so I don’t have to have two unsightly pods of rust on my front end.

How hot did the housings get while they were on?
I’m thinking about changing my mount because one is really close to my AC condenser.

cool and bonus star for not parking up aginst the curb with your smart. There used to be a person next dor who would park all there way up and every monring at least a dozen cars would try to pull into the spot only to realize that it was occupied and wait for the following car to back up so they can move on.

Nice, I have been thinking about adding some auxiliary lighting to my Civic. Although I was going to go slightly more subtle and stick it in the lower grille. I was looking at this super thin light bar, also on Amazon. It’s claimed to be a 150W bar. Which if it’s even half of that in reality, should be way more than enough.
